Privacy Policy

Your data stays mostly on your device.

Beyond UV is a local-first app. It has no accounts, advertising, analytics, tracking, or crash-reporting services.

Effective September 11, 2026

Information the app accesses

If you choose “Use my location,” Beyond UV asks iOS for your precise location while you are using the app. It uses that location to request a local UV forecast and to calculate local sun timing. The app does not request background or always-on location access.

You can use the app without sharing device location by searching for a city. A manually selected place is represented by its label, coordinates, and time zone.

You may also choose a skin-response type and provide broad routine preferences, such as typical outdoor time, driving, window-light exposure, exercise frequency, and the protection items you use. These choices are optional and remain on your device.

City search (Apple Maps)

When you search for a place, Beyond UV uses Apple’s MapKit search (the same technology as the Maps app) to find matching cities. While the search field is open, the text you type and, when you pick a result, that place’s coordinates are sent to Apple’s mapping service to return the match and its time zone. This is a first-party Apple service; there is no third-party geocoder and no API key. Beyond UV does not store the text you type.

Weather forecast (Apple Weather / WeatherKit)

Beyond UV uses Apple’s WeatherKit framework to retrieve the hourly forecast (UV Index, cloud cover, temperature, and conditions) for your current or searched place. To return a forecast, WeatherKit sends the coordinates of that place to Apple. This request is made by the operating system’s WeatherKit service; it carries no Beyond UV account, name, email address, user ID, advertising ID, or analytics identifier, because the app has none. Apple’s handling of location data for its services is described in the Apple Privacy Policy.

The UVA Context shown beside the UV Index is calculated entirely on your device from the Sun’s position, the date, your elevation, and the hourly forecast, including cloud cover. No separate request is made for it, and it is not sent anywhere.

If a forecast cannot be retrieved, Beyond UV falls back to an on-device clear-sky estimate based on the Sun’s position. That fallback makes no network request.

Ask Beyond UV (on-device answers)

When you use Ask Beyond UV, the app searches a copy of the UV Companion Guide stored on your device and answers from the matching excerpts. On iPhones that support Apple Intelligence (iOS 26 and later), the app may use Apple’s on-device Foundation Models to write a short answer from those excerpts. That processing stays on your device. If Apple Intelligence is unavailable, Ask shows the matching excerpts instead. Beyond UV does not send your question to a Beyond UV server or to a third-party AI company.

Information stored on your device

Beyond UV saves only the information needed to remember your setup and preferences:

The app does not keep a location history beyond those recents, and no exposure diary, activity history, analytics log, or diagnostic log. It does not store this information on a Beyond UV server and does not provide cloud sync.

What the app does not collect

Beyond UV does not access your contacts, photos, calendar, microphone, camera, motion data, HealthKit data, Bluetooth devices, local network, pasteboard, advertising identifier, or other device identifiers. It contains no analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting services and no third-party software development kits. WeatherKit and MapKit are first-party Apple system frameworks, not third-party SDKs. Ask Beyond UV does not send your questions to a third-party AI service.

Retention and deletion

Preferences remain in the app’s local storage until you change them or delete the app. Because Beyond UV has no account or backend, there is no remotely stored Beyond UV account data to delete. Deleting the app removes its locally stored data from your device, subject to standard iOS behavior.

Your choices

Location access is optional. You can change it at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Beyond UV. Choosing “Never” stops the app from receiving your device location; you can continue with a manually chosen place.

Children’s privacy

Beyond UV does not knowingly collect names, contact details, accounts, or other identifying information from children.

Changes to this policy

If the app’s data practices change, this policy will be updated before those changes take effect, and the effective date above will be revised.
